pace with a few brief stops
TYPE OF SURFACE: asphalt in good condition
RECOMMENDED PERIOD: May-October
POSSIBILITY TO SHORTEN THE ITINERARY: yes
POSSIBILITY TO LENGTHEN THE ITINERARY: yes
Starting from the Adamello Ski territory,
take the SS42 (national road) towards Edolo and then
Forno Allione. Here, turn right and take the SS294,
an enchanting landscape awaits you along this road. It is a narrow
road that continues along among the wood for almost ¾ of
its length and then exits out amongst the mountain pastures that
will take you to Passo Vivione at 1828 m, where a
brief stop is definitely a must.
Descend down to Schilpario while being extra careful since
the road is narrow and there are no protective barriers in certain
points.
Before arriving in Schilpario, it is definitely worth stopping
for a visit of the mines aboard the small train that allows you
to go through some of the tunnels (it is open every Saturday and
Sunday and only by booking during the other days of the week). A
visit through the tunnels lasts approx. 40 minutes.
Continue onwards to Schilpario and then towards Presolana,
where the road becomes very steep. The Passo della Presolana
is located at 1609 m. Among the many attractions is the bobsleigh
track which is also open during the summer.
Leaving behind the Presolana descend towards Lago d’Iseo
(lake) following the directions for Lovere. A walk along
the lakeside is recommended to allow you to admire the magnificent
scenery on the Sebino.
Begin your trip once again, going towards Darfo Boario Terme,
along the old national road that passes through Rogno. When
you arrive in Boario it is possible to either visit the
park that surrounds the Thermal Springs, or the Archeopark
(open from 01/03 to 30/11 – 9.00 – 17.30 ph 0364 529552
www.archeopark.net
).
From here follow the directions towards Val di Scalve. The
road begins to rise as it continues along beside the Dezzo stream,
and you can admire its crystal clean water by driving slowly and
keeping to the edge of the road. You must be very careful as you
drive through the first tunnel that you encounter after Angolo
Terme, it is quite dark and there is a sharp turn to the right
that is quite dangerous as soon as you exit the tunnel.
Once you reach the town of Dezzo, follow directions for Borno
by way of Croce di Salven, at 1108 m, you will continue
along a road that up to a few years ago was used for the Valle
Camonica Rally.
Once you reach Borno, excellent ice cream awaits you at the
Bar Gelateria Piazzetta.
Then off you go again towards Malegno, Breno, Edolo
until you once again reach the Adamello Ski territory.
For extra fun on your motorcycle
Follow this itinerary in the opposite direction. The 9 km that
separate Malegno from Borno are very fast and the
road is in very good conditions. This is where the legendary Malegno-Ossimo-Borno
cronoscalata takes place. (timed uphill race)
The section between Borno-Paline is once again very fast,
it is then recommended to continue with caution all the way to Lovere.
There are several ways to have fun from here all the way to Passo
della Presolana. As you descend down to Schilpario you
can alternate between accelerating and decelerating. Drive slowly
both going up to, and down from Passo del Vivione. It is
then possible to increase your speed all the way to Temù
(being careful since this road is quite busy).
